Zinc mines in Allmannajuvet

As a part of the establishment of the Norwegian Scenic Route Ryfylke, the famous Swiss architect Peter Zumthor designed a number of facilities at the old zinc mines in the Allmannajuvet gorge. The mines are located 9 km from the centre of Sauda, then Fv520 in the direction Røldal. These will illustrate the history of the mines in a strikingly modern way. Mining in the Allmannajuvet started in 1882 and lasted until 1899. In order to reach the entrance of the mine, a spectacular road was constructed up and above the wild river. The project was completed in 2016.

Autumn 2022 (after 14. august)
Allmannajuvet is closed, but it is possible to arrange a tour for groups. Must be booked at least 2 days in advance by contacting us by email: post@saudaferie.no or telephone: (+47) 52 78 42 00.

Svandalsfossen

Svandalsfossen (Svandal Waterfall) is one of many selected attractions along the National Tourist Road through Ryfylke. Svandalsfossen is along Rv 520, just before Saudasjøen.
Svandalsfossen is impressive due to the volume of water at the fall. The area around the waterfall has parking , information board, viewing-points, plateaus, handrails and bridges, not to mention the 540 steps all the way from the fjord to the thundering waterfall across the road.
