NATIONAL TOURIST ROAD RYFYLKE
The road starts at Oanes and follows Rv 13 through Ryfylke and further up Rv 520 through Sauda and over to Røldal. Sauda has two marked attractions of interest: Svandalsfossen and Zinc Mines in Almannajuvet.
Zinc mines in Almannajuvet
As a part of the establishment of the National Tourist Route Ryfylke, the famous Swiss architect Peter Zumthor designed a number of facilities at the old zinc mines in the Allmannajuvet gorge. The mines are located 9 km from the centre of Saudaon then Fv520 in the direction Røldal. These will illustrate the history of the mines in a strikingly modern way. Mining in the Allmannajuvet started in 1882 and lasted until 1899. In order to reach the entrance of the mine, a spectacular road was constructed up and above the wild river. The project is to be completed in 2016.
Allmannajuvet will be open everyday during the period from 27.06.20 until 09.08.20 + weekends 15, 16, 22 and 23 of august, from 10am to 4pm. We will offer guided tours two times a day at 11am and 1pm. If you want to book a tour, call the café in Allmannajuvet by phone: (+47) 469 19 696.

Svandalsfossen (Svandal Waterfall) is one of many selected attractions along the National Tourist Road through Ryfylke. Svandalsfossen is along Rv 520, just before Saudasjøen.
Svandalsfossen is impressive due to the volume of water at the fall. The area around the waterfall has parking , information board, viewing-points, plateaus, handrails and bridges, not to mention the 540 steps all the way from the fjord to the thundering waterfall across the road.
